H.o.P.e. Revolution: Day 8 Abundant Comfort

Rain is falling.  Sky is gray.  Eyes are tired.  Body aches.  Old trials – supposedly eliminated – have reared their ugly heads.

Today is just like yesterday.  Same people.  Same worries.  Same chores.  Same heartaches.

Is there any rest for the weary?  Where is a much-needed break in all this nonsense and chaos?  Even for an hour … or less …?

But relief isn’t found in the fantasies or escapes of this world.  Our society’s addictions create as many problems as they claim to “fix.”  Ignoring deeper soul issues doesn’t allow for a permanent peace.  Covering up pain simply permits it to grow larger.

Instead, rest is promised by Him.  Given by our Father in Heaven as we receive His gift.  His comfort is eternal, complete, encompassing.  He experiences our emotions as we do, understanding their impact, presenting the best solution.

He wishes to take our pain, replacing it with peace and contentment, allowing Him to orchestrate our future as He planned it.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ. But if we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; or if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which is effective in the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer; and our hope for you is firmly grounded, knowing that as you are sharers of our sufferings, so also you are sharers of our comfort. (II Corinthians 1:3-7 NASB)

Funny how we humans think “abundant life” means cars, houses, games, and treats.  But the “abundant life” He promises includes abundant comfort in the face of abundant suffering.  How much more wonderful is that!

Rain is still falling, but there’s a rainbow promised at the end of it.  Sky is still gray, but what shades of blue are hiding over the horizon!  Eyes are still tired, but open to the potentials within this day.  Body still aches physically, but the heart beats faster with possibilities.

Those trials … well, they are just God’s way of providing His greater comfort to us – each moment of this day – making it a brand new day with new experiences all through it!
